Merry Christmas

When the Lights go Out....

The lights are still off. :) We had power for a little over half a day and then we lost it again. The house was not as cold last night as the other night, so that was good. It seems the temperature is rising some. With no water, our main concern is keeping things warm enough that the pipes don't freeze and burst.

Power crews are now coming in from all over the midwest to help, thank the Lord. Residents of the city are becoming quite weary with the power outages, as power will come on in one area and another area that has never lost power, out of the blue, will suddenly lose power. However, crews are working hard to restore power. It just goes to show one how spoiled we've become. This situation has just made me more appreciative of technology and electricity. I don't think that I would have made a good pioneer, although, back then it was okay because that is all they knew. Also, this experience has given me greater respect for those in California, Louisiana, and other locations displaced by the forces of nature for long periods of time, in addition to all of the folks who work around the clock to get everything back in working order.

No matter how exhausting or challenging, we are still blessed. More in the news here

Seven inches of snow are heading this way today starting at 2:00 this afternoon. Hopefully that will not put things too far behind in getting fixed, although, Westar is now predicting that it may possibly be Christmas before all of the power is back on. In the meantime, we'll keep living by candlelight and battery powered lanterns, using water out of jugs, heating with the oven, going to town to take showers and get warm, all the while chanting, "we're making memories." :)

My Town...

Over 10,000 are without power. We are one of them. Our power has been out since Monday evening at 10 pm and the power companies are predicting that it will be the weekend before we get power. We are definitely making memories. The toilets don't flush even if you pour five gallons of water in them (the joys of living on a well and sump pump system) and we head to town to take showers, get warm, and sit in places with the lights on. The city looks like a war zone. It's interesting to drive down roads with absolutely no lights on in the pitch black on pure ice. Kinda creepy, but sorta cool! (literally) :)
